Innovation and underwriting discipline will see us through Covid

TMK’s Chief Underwriting Officer, Matthew Shaw, was interviewed by Insurance Day in April 2021, where he talked through how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted syndicate results in 2020, and where rating improvements are being seen in 2021.
Sectors such as aviation, travel, entertainment and hospitality were particularly affected and Shaw stressed that
"Brokers and clients are looking for consistency. They are looking for quality security, with quality markets that have the expertise and experience to lead the business and they looking to longstanding markets such as TMK to deliver the right products,”
He outlined the major portfolio optimisation programme TMK is engaged in, with a focus on improving overall profitability in a post-Covid market.
