Tokio Marine Kiln announces new hires in Fine Art and Life Sciences to drive growth ambitions
Monday, March 3, 2025
London, 3rd March 2025: Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), a leading international specialty insurer, has today announced the appointments of Jake Burgess as Fine Art and Specie Underwriter and Ella Henderson as Life Sciences Underwriter.
Burgess brings over ten years of insurance experience in underwriting and claims to the team. Most recently, he served as Underwriting Manager for US Specie & West Zone Fine Art at AXA XL. Prior to this, he was at XL Catlin. He will report into Departmental Head of Marine and Energy, Richard Hooks.
Henderson brings six years' insurance experience across broking and underwriting to the role, having begun her career at CFC Underwriting before taking up a role at Superscript specialising in medical technology ("Medtech"). She will report to Head of Life Sciences, Kirsten Shastri.
Both appointments will further strengthen TMK’s depth of expertise and leadership capabilities in two key growth classes for the business. Within Fine Art and Specie, TMK provides cover for physical loss or damage risks, with clients ranging from financial institutions to private collectors.
Henderson’s appointment follows a period of impressive growth for Life Sciences, with TMK doubling its book in the last year. TMK has a strong reputation for innovation in Life Sciences, launching the IntelliMed product in 2023 which combines comprehensive coverages for traditional Life Sciences companies as well as for niche fields of the sector and innovative products.
Burgess and Henderson join at an exciting time for TMK, which is focused on expanding its capabilities and strengthening its lead market positions in a number of key classes by 2030.
Vivek Syal, Chief Underwriting Officer at TMK, said: “Having Jake and Ella come aboard demonstrates our commitment to strengthening our depth of talent across the business. Both bring a wealth of experience and a strong track record of delivery that will help us further enhance our leading capabilities across two key strategic growth areas, and we know they will help us deliver on our ambitions.”
