Aviation at a turning point: rethinking risk
By David Slevin, Departmental Head of Aviation
23 June 2026
Aviation has a habit of defying expectations. In my 42 years in this industry, I have watched it absorb terrorist attacks, a global financial crisis, a pandemic that grounded fleets worldwide, and repeated bouts of geopolitical turbulence. Through all of it, the industry has continued to grow at roughly 5% a year, doubling in size every two decades, a record most industries would be proud of.

By Rob Jarvis, Head of Innovation
14 May 2026
When the market softens, an underwriter’s instinct is often to play it safe, protect existing customers, and park anything new until conditions improve. As margins compress and competition intensifies, that reaction is understandable. Innovation starts to feel like a luxury, and it’s often the first thing to be quietly put on ice in favour of small changes dressed up as differentiation.
50 years in flight: leading the future of aviation insurance
By Matthew Shaw, Chief Executive Officer
28 April 2026
TMK's aviation practice was founded in 1976, the same year Concorde completed its first commercial flight. The world's fastest passenger aircraft, capable of crossing the Atlantic in under three and a half hours, felt like a glimpse of where aviation was headed. Fifty years on, Concorde is long retired, and the aircraft most of us board today would be broadly recognisable to an underwriter from that era, even if almost everything underneath the surface has changed. The same, in many ways, could be said of the aviation insurance market.
Homegrown hackers
By Luke Fardell, Lead Cyber Analyst
12 February 2026
Last year, the National Crime Agency arrested four suspects in connection with cyber-attacks on Marks & Spencer, Co-op, and Harrods. What made these arrests noteworthy wasn’t just the high-profile nature of the victims, but the fact that the suspects are UK nationals. This highlighted a shift in the cyber risk landscape which organisations cannot afford to ignore.
