TMK launches its first apprenticeship scheme to kick start school leavers’ careers
Monday, July 10, 2023
Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) is launching its first apprenticeship scheme from 10 July 2023, inviting school leavers to explore a potential career in insurance.
The apprenticeship scheme offers school leavers, who are beginning to think about career opportunities, an attractive alternative to studying at university by enabling them to develop skills and knowledge in a 2-3 year programme within underwriting, claims, operations or IT. This involves a competitive salary and flexible benefits package, rotations around different teams, structured training, a career mentor, and support to achieve a professional qualification. Following the programme, apprentices will then be able to apply for a permanent role within TMK.
The apprenticeship scheme launch comes as TMK marks the 50th anniversary of its graduate scheme this year.
Elisabeth Ibeson, chief people officer, said: "By opening up our early careers scheme to school leavers, we are tapping into a new pool of young, diverse talent. We’ll be able to welcome new ideas and fresh perspectives to our business, help sustain insurance careers in the London market, and also offer opportunities for young people from the grassroots upwards, to help them build their careers.”
Ben Langton, who joined TMK as a school leaver in 2017 and is now a claims adjuster, says of his career journey: “Following school, I knew I didn’t want to go to university and wanted to get into work sooner rather than later. I was not sure about a career path at that time, but my brother works in insurance and recommended TMK as a firm with a great reputation.”
The first cohort of school leavers are invited to apply to the apprenticeship scheme from 10 July through the TMK website and will begin their placements in October.
